When you think of getting rid of clutter in your home, you may not even know where to start. As we all know, keeping our home as well as the other areas of our lives organized is a continual, day-to-day process that can become easier by developing good organizational habits.
By asking yourself a few questions before you begin, you will find yourself more focused and motivated to begin as well as to continue the project.
*What items are you storing that are rusted or damaged, too old to use, too unsafe to use, beyond repair, no longer fit or damaged by dust, cold or heat?
*This is also a good time to ask yourself if you keep bringing more clutter into your life. Do you find great bargains that you cannot pass up at garage sales and flea markets? Do you say “yes” to every giveaway offer? Do you constantly pick up free pamphlets and flyers? Do you find “wonderful” things that people throw away?
*Do you accumulate and refuse to throw out keepsakes because you have an emotional attachment to them? Do you really want to read your old notes from college or read the kindergarten newsletter of your young adult son? Do you think your happy memories and personal history will disappear if you do not save mementos from events and trips?
Now that you have done the “mind” work, you can begin with the actual job of de-cluttering your surroundings and life. It gets easier with practice!
